About the Indonesia – Netherlands Thesis Prize
The Indonesia Nederland Society (INS) is proud to announce the fourth edition of the Indonesia Netherlands Thesis Prize, organized in close collaboration with our valued partners.
The prize aims to:
- Highlight outstanding student research;
- Encourage innovative and impactful academic work;
- Connect academic knowledge with societal challenges;
- Strengthen collaboration between Indonesia and the Netherlands;
- Inspire the next generation of researchers and change makers.
Participants are invited to present their research through a concise and engaging video pitch aimed at a general audience.
The applicant who delivers the most compelling presentation of their Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis will be awarded the Indonesia–Netherlands Thesis Prize 2026.
Prize
The winner will receive a bespoke fellowship program in Indonesia or the Netherlands, including a return flight between Jakarta and Amsterdam (or vice versa), subject to applicable conditions.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Open to all academic disciplines;
- Thesis completed at Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis;
- Thesis assessed by a Dutch or Indonesian university;
- Thesis assessment date: between 31 August 2024 and 31 May 2026.
How to Apply?
To submit your application, please provide:
- A digital copy of the Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis;
- Proof of the grade received;
- A written summary of your thesis (max. 500 words in English);
- A recorded video statement (maximum 3 minutes, in English).
Your Video Pitch Should Explain:
- How your research contributes to a specific Sustainable Development Goal (SDG);
- Why the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and the Netherlands is important within this context;
- How collaboration between both countries can generate a meaningful and lasting impact on sustainability challenges.
Application Deadline:
Applications can be submitted until 31 July 2026 via the designated Google form
Assessment criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Eligibility and Completeness
- Compliance with all participants on requirements;
- Completeness of the submitted application.
- Academic Quality and Originality
- Relevance and significance of the research topic;
- Quality of theoretical and methodological approach;
- Originality and innovation;
- Scientific and social relevance.
- Potential to generate new insights.
- Quality of the video Pitch
- Ability to communicate research clearly to a general audience;
- Ability to explain the relevance of the research for Indonesia and the Netherlands;
- Ability to connect the research to the Sustainable Development Goals;
- Ability to demonstrate how bilateral collaboration can create real-world impact;
- Ability to present and promote the main findings in a compelling and inspiring manner.
Selection Process
A jury of experts will review all submissions and select the strongest candidates.
Finalists will be invited to present their research during WINNER 2026, taking place from 6-8 October 2026.
Following the final presentations, the jury will select the recipient of the Indonesia–Netherlands Thesis Prize 2026 and the accompanying fellowship experience.
